A letter from Lisa...
Chris and I have been so blessed to have had such a great heritage. It is times like these when we like to remember those who have passed on or survived cancer. I especially like to remember my own family that has had such an impact on my life.
My paternal grandmother, Ada A. Goodwin, taught me to fight for what I believe in and to never give in to the feeling of insecurity. My paternal grandmother, Ethel B. Turner, taught me how to love people regardless of status, race, or heritage. My great aunt, Gladys G. Jackson, taught me how to love others through nursing. Most importantly, my mom, Shirley T. Goodwin, taught me to love God and to always keep my focus on Him.
Each of these ladies has shaped my life into the woman I am today. I am very grateful to them and the memories that I will always cherish. A verse that comes to mind is from Proverbs 31: 28-30, “Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain; but a woman that feareth the Lord, shall be praised.” I would like to think that these ladies have provided me with the tools that I need to face life and the challenges that arise daily.
Working with other ladies who have experienced first-hand the effects of cancer in their own lives has been a tremendous blessing to me. I count it a privilege to be a part of their lives, and I pray that throughout it all, God will use me in some small way to encourage them.
We would like to express our sincerest appreciation to those who have provided names for our “Living Tree of Remembrance”. May the memories that we share strengthen us for tomorrow and may they continue to live through us and our future generations. May we always remember these names as a living reminder of the wonderful contributions they have made in our lives.
