About Us

Wannamaker Drug has been serving Chesterfield County and the surrounding areas since the late 1800s. Founded in 1898, Mr. T. E. Wannamaker began with a hometown drug store known for great service and family friendliness. In 1988, Chris Bridges, RPh and Derek James bought Wannamaker Drug. They committed themselves to providing the community and surrounding areas with the same quality products and friendly service that the store became known for so many years ago. Wannamaker Drug celebrated its grand opening under the new ownership of Chris Bridges, RPh and Derek James in 1988. The day included a ribbon cutting with then Mayor of Cheraw, C.H. McBride.

Wannamaker Drug was famous for their old fashioned soda fountain. It was a popular gathering spot, especially during hot summer days. The orange whiz was a favorite drink among locals. Wannamaker Drug's store front has been through many changes over the years. One thing that has never changed is the store's commitment to quality and superior customer service. Wannamaker Drug is committed to "Going the Extra Mile" for their customers.

In 1998, Wannamaker Drug celebrated a milestone by serving the residents of Chesterfield County for exactly 100 years. To commemorate the special occasion, Governor David Beasley joined Chris Bridges and citizens of Cheraw for a 100 year celebration. To be able to offer the community a larger selection of medical equipment, Wannamaker Drug added a new side to the store in 2002. The medical equipment department offers oxygen, lift chairs, scooters, walkers. Wheelchairs, diabetic shoes and more. All medical equipment is delivered to customers and set up for free. In 2009, Chris and Lisa Bridges took over full ownership of Wannamaker Drug and a second location was opened in the Town of Chesterfield. It was their desire to bring the same great service and family-friendly atmosphere to the people of Chesterfield as the store was known for in Cheraw. This location offers two drive-thru windows for the convenience of their customers. In 2013, Wannamaker Drug introduced a complete line of medical fashion wear from Cherokee to Dickies. Wannamaker Drug has been through many changes over the last 120 years but some things are the same as they were in the 1800s. Wannamaker Drug is still a family owned pharmacy striving to serve the citizens of Chesterfield County with a friendly staff, superior service, and quality products.
